By David R. Sear

Published in 1974

The collector will find more information compressed into this work than in any other single volume published previously on Byzantine coinage.  The period covered is from the reign of Anastasius I (491-518) to the capture of Constantinople by the Turks in 1453.  There are 2,260 coins catalogued and valued with over 600 illustrations giving an almost complete listing of the main Byzantine coin types presently known in gold, silver and copper.

The fron part of the catalogue includes articles on types, mints, denominations, dates and legends, there are also maps showing the varying extent of the Empire in different periods and tables of regnal and indictional years for most of the earlier reigns.

Catalogue of German Coins

Gold, silver and minor coins since 1800 with their valuations.

By  P. Arnold, D. Steinhilber and H. Kuthmann

Published 1972

This catalogue contains the coins of all the German states issued from 1800 through the present time (1972 or so).   The gold, silver and base metal coins of each kingdom, duchy, principality and city are listed chronologically with all the denominations of each issue together.

Collectors will find a catalogue number for each coin type, the inclusive dates of issue and the metallic content.  Legends and inscriptions are translated into English and special footnotes explain the significance of unusual issues, the reasons and occasions for commemoratives, etc.  Current retail values based on auction records and dealers' price lists are shown for each listing.

In addition to regular issues, it also records many essay and pattern pieces as well as all of the commemoratives, Emergency coins minted privately or by local communities have not been included.  Originally published in a German language edition, this book has been especially designed to make it eash for the collector to locate the coin he is seeking.  Every type and nearly every variety is pictured, all are described and valuations are given except for extremely rare coins.  Brief historical notes provide background information on the coins and on the issuing states.
